The Bachelor of Science (Extended) is a four-year degree that provides a pathway for Indigenous students to embark on careers that build on a strong science background. You will have access to the full range of opportunities available in the Bachelor of Science, together with additional support and resources to provide a strong foundation for success in science study.

A key element of the Bachelor of Science (Extended) is that this program is residential – students live in University residential colleges and benefit from the extra support and opportunities that colleges provide.

Additional support services are available for all students through Murrup Barak, the Melbourne Institute of Indigenous Development and Murrup Barak Indigenous Student Programs.

Key features:

  • The first two years of the degree focus on practical workshops and tailored academic support across science, mathematics and communications subjects
  • Choose from 41 majors
  • The University of Melbourne is ranked #1 in Australia for physics and astronomy (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017)
  • It is home to research centres like the Melbourne Brain Centre and the Bio21 Institute, the University's $140 million, state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary research facility and one of the largest biotechnology research centres in Australia. Significant infrastructure and expertise is accessible to students through specialist platforms such as Melbourne Bioinformatics, Bioimaging, Advanced Microscopy and others.

The Bachelor of Science (Extended) is delivered by the University of Melbourne and is the tertiary education element of a broader Indigenous STEM education project managed by CSIRO in partnership with the BHP Billiton Foundation.
