Optometry
Optometry is a dynamic and challenging healthcare specialisation that trains you to detect, diagnose and manage ocular disease. Optometrists examine, diagnose, treat and manage diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eyes and associated structures as well as diagnose related systemic conditions.
To become an optometrist:
Step 1
Choose the Bachelor of Biomedicine or Bachelor of Science at Melbourne and complete three subjects at second-year or third-year level in one or more relevant biological science disciplines.
Step 2
Choose the Doctor of Optometry at Melbourne to qualify as an optometrist.

About the Doctor of Optometry
The Doctor of Optometry (OD) creates a new benchmark in 21st century optometric education. It is the international standard for entry into optometric practice and the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
The Melbourne OD has been designed to deliver an integrated curriculum that offers students substantially more clinical experience than any other optometry course in Australia.
Entry requirements
This program may have specific entry requirements such as prerequisite subjects, a minimum GPA (Grade Point Average) or an entry test that must be completed to be considered for entry.
Guaranteed entry
The University offers guaranteed entry into selected graduate degrees to domestic and international students who have completed an Australian Year 12 or the IB in Australia. Eligible students must enrol in a University of Melbourne undergraduate degree immediately following year 12, or be granted a deferral by the University. These guarantees are usually based on your ATAR/notional ATAR.
