Architecture
Architecture is a creative and exciting design-based profession concerned with virtually all aspects of the built environment. It combines art, science and technology with business, social and environmental concerns.
To become an architect:
Step 1
Choose the Bachelor of Design at Melbourne as your first degree and major in Architecture.
Step 2
Choose the two-year Master of Architecture to be able to qualify as an architect.
Alternative pathway
Alternatively, you can complete the Bachelor of Arts, Biomedicine, Commerce, Music or Science with a design and history subject at Melbourne and then undertake the three-year Master of Architecture.

About the Master of Architecture
The Master of Architecture focuses on architectural design and practice. Upon completion of this course, you can seek employment in private architectural firms working on residential, commercial and institutional projects or in government departments assisting in the development of major projects.
Entry requirements
- A three-year undergraduate degree with a major in Architecture or equivalent and a weighted average mark of at least H3 (65%), or equivalent
- A personal statement and a folio
Guaranteed entry
The University offers guaranteed entry into selected graduate degrees to domestic and international students who have completed an Australian Year 12 or the IB in Australia. Eligible students must enrol in a University of Melbourne undergraduate degree immediately following year 12, or be granted a deferral by the University. These guarantees are usually based on your ATAR/notional ATAR.
