Construction explores the management of people, processes and materials on specific building projects and across the entire building industry.

Just as the building industry embraces both building and commerce, so too do studies in construction, with subjects undertaken in everything from construction and structures to management and law. The skills you learn are relevant to the real world, with site visits and guest speakers from industry an important part of the program.

Applicants for this major must have completed Units 3 and 4 Mathematical Methods or equivalent.

Students majoring in Construction would be suited to positions in the building and construction industry in areas including:

  • Contract administration
  • Project management
  • Tendering.

This major can also lead to further study in the Master of Construction Management at Melbourne.

Prerequisites

Units 3 & 4: A study score of at least 25 in English/English Language/ Literature or at least 30 in EAL.

Applicants intending to major in Civil Systems, Computing, Construction, Mechanical Systems, Property or Spatial Systems may be required to undertake a bridging subject in mathematics as breadth in first year. This is equivalent to Units 3 and 4 Mathematical Methods, and entry requires a mathematics background equivalent to Units 1 and 2 Mathematical Methods.
