Theatre Practice
The Theatre Practice specialisation in the Bachelor of Fine Arts is an intensive actor training program that will develop you into an autonomous actor who is able to interpret established texts as well as generate and perform new material.
In the first year you integrate imagination, voice and body skills and apply these in a range of performance contexts. You explore creating performance from the self and develop strategies for the interpretation of text. The second year continues to develop your kinaesthetic and perceptual awareness in performance. You learn to work within a production process from conception through to rehearsal and performance.
By the third year you will have consolidated a working methodology as an autonomous actor. You will complete performance projects culminating in a festival of new work.
The program is taught in the VCA’s specially designed Performing Arts building in Southbank, next door to the Melbourne Theatre Company. It has seven studio spaces, a studio theatre and graduate study rooms.
Selection into this specialisation is talent-based and includes an audition, interview and workshop. See details.
